# Video Gaymes

> by Luke Smith

Games are art.

His ex-girlfriend reading hours and hours of novel books. She wasn't weird. She wasn't skipping social events to read. It was not addictive, she was not obsessively pushing it on everyone.

Gaymes are different from books, **gaymes are designed to be massively addicting.** Rewards for special quests create false accomplishments. The game feels like a job you have to do. Gaymes take over your life. Other "art" is not that addictive.

Television and videogames used to be ok. Now they are **designed around your psychology**, so you lay in bed thinking of the mechanics of the game.

He played to much Fallout 3 with his room-mate, it took over his brain "does this water have radiation?" (lol). Gaymes are now more and more like that, they're time-sinks, time vampires, they take more and more of you. Television is now the same, just slightly less addicting.

People consooming these gaymes are less invested in their actual lives.

He might even appreciate the work behind it, the plot, the graphics, even the psychological manipulation behind it (lol), but he is conscious that **gaymes are made to manipulate you.**

In a party, at a social event, he might enjoy playing videogames together.

_"I wish I can have all those years back of playing videogames"_

Best assets to have in your life: **Just be bored a little bit**
When bored you start playing with things, fixing things, accomplishing things

_"Boredom inspires you"_ to do things, better than any media consumption
